‘Widget’ is a 16’ Haven 12½ , Joel White’s centerboard version of the original iconic Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 12½ and was described by White as ‘probably the best day sail boat ever designed’. This beautiful boat is a joy to sail, is simple to rig and is easily single handed but carries four adults comfortably.
She is cedar strip construction with fibreglass and Sicomin epoxy coated (inside and out) and is therefore low maintenance. Keel logs are English Oak with mahogany and teak decking and trim with a solid mahogany transom. The fore deck is sheathed in glass to show off the beautiful wood, the deck has been re-varnished this year. All brightwork is finished with Tonginois traditional varnish.
Solid Douglas fir mast, gaff and boom, lead keel with integral marine ply lifting centreplate and mainly bronze hardware. Stainless steel standing rigging and ‘hemp’ lookalike running rigging. The sails by Rowsell are in excellent condition.
Price includes a galvanised SBS braked, single axle trailer valued at £2000, new in 2014; a 4kg grapnel anchor, 5m chain and 30m warp.
The design was modified to accommodate a built-in buoyancy tank below the fore deck.
The boat was completed in 2014 and has had little use since then and is for sale as I need space for another project.
