The Laser 16 Sailing Dinghy is an excellent day boat that sails well. It has a retracting centre plate, plenty of room in the cockpit and a large sealed forward locker. It is capable of sailing with five persons but also easily sailed single handed in lighter winds.
The Laser 16 is 5 metres in length with a 2m beam. Enough space to sleep either side of the centreboard. It has a retractable 29.5kg metal centreboard makes a significant contribution to the overall 250kg hull weight and to the boat’s feeling of solidity and stability. It has a sizeable watertight storage locker under the enclosed foredeck, accessible via a lifting hatch on the forward bulkhead. A furling jib and two rows of mainsail slab reefing are standard. Buoyancy is built into the bow and enclosed side decks, while the cockpit is self-draining via holes in the full-height transom.
Owned for 7 years the boat has been sailed on lakes and inshore around N Wales: From evening sails on Llyn Padarn and the Menai straits to multi-day camping adventures around Anglesey and the Llyn peninsula. I am selling to upgrade to a small cabin trailer sailer.
Included:
• Full suit of sails: mainsail, furling jib and spinnaker
• Mast that ‘breaks’ for easy trailing
• Spinnaker pole
• fenders
• Self draining cockpit
• All lines, sheets, halyards etc
• Rudder, tiller, centreboard
• Swimming ladder
• Outboard bracket
• Watertight storage locker
• Anchor and chain
• Mast down cover
• Trailer with spare wheel with brand new tyre
An outboard is available by separate negotiation: 5hp Mercury two stroke in good working order.
The boat is in good, ready to sail condition. The Hull has a few dings but is perfectly sound.
Issues you'd want to know about before driving to N Wales to look at the boat:
The mast foot has had a repair due to an adventure!. This repair has lasted 6 years with no issue and has made no difference to my use of the boat (see photo)
The rudder had an unfortunate argument with the prop on the outboard (see photo). This does not affect the performance of the rudder in any significant way, hence the lack of repair.
